Sound Exchange Is Looking For You!

On August 15, 2012 music industry organization Sound Exchange released its updated database of over 50,000 recording artist and record label names that are owed millions of dollars in unclaimed digital performance royalty payments. Those artists and labels included on the list are currently owed better than $30 million in accumulated unclaimed royalties. Sound Exchange has been authorized by the Library of Congress to collect royalties from such outlets as XM Sirius satellite radio; from cable and satellite television (Muzak or MusicChoice channels); and from Internet radio stations like Pandora.

The Reverend spent the better part of a weekend digging through the 50,000+ names that Sound Exchange shows as "unregistered" artists for which they're holding unclaimed digital performance royalties. From the extensive Sound Exchange database, I've compiled a list of Nashville-based artists and record labels that the organization hasn't been able to find. The list is shown below exactly as I cut-n-pasted from the Sound Exchange website – any mistakes, spelling or otherwise, are entirely their mistakes. An asterisk beside a band's name means that one or more members have registered already, others have not.

If your name is on this list of blues artists that Sound Exchange is looking for, get over to the organization's website to register and claim whatever money they may be holding, as well as any future royalties that may come your way. Your music is being played on the Internet and via satellite, and while this cash may not add up to much, it's your money and you deserve it! Even if your name isn't listed below, if you haven't registered, you should do so and ensure that you get paid in the future. If you know somebody on this list, let them know that there may be cash available for them…
